Whether you're hosting a garden soiree or yearning for a quiet moment with a book, this blueberry lemonade brings the gentleness of a summer breeze to your day. The muddle of blueberries not only imparts a beautiful hue but also a cocktail of health-boosting antioxidants. So, let's raise a glass to long afternoons and the sweet simplicity of nature's bounty!
Ingredients
- 200g fresh blueberries, plus extra for garnish
- 120ml fresh lemon juice (about 4-5 lemons)
- 80g granulated sugar
- 1 liter water, chilled
- A few sprigs of fresh mint, for garnish
- Crushed ice
Instructions
- 1
In a small saucepan, combine blueberries and sugar with 240ml of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until blueberries break down and a syrup forms, about 5 minutes.
- 2
Strain the blueberry mixture through a fine mesh sieve, pressing on solids to extract as much liquid as possible, and then let cool.
- 3
In a large pitcher, stir together lemon juice, blueberry syrup, and remaining chilled water.
- 4
Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if necessary. If it's too sweet, balance it with a bit more lemon juice.
- 5
Fill glasses with crushed ice, pour over the blueberry lemonade, and garnish with fresh blueberries and mint sprigs.
Chef's Tip
For an additional twist, add a splash of sparkling water to give your lemonade a fizzy kick!
Fun Fact
Historians trace the origins of lemonade to medieval Egypt where a wine made from lemon juice, sugar, and water was enjoyed, known as 'qatarmizat'.
