Think of it as a festive bridge between the Cape Codder and the Cosmopolitan: cranberry’s jewel-toned tang, lime’s crisp snap, and a smooth vodka backbone. For a New Year’s flourish, a splash of dry sparkling wine turns it into a celebratory spritz; soda water works for a lighter sparkle without extra sweetness.
The magic is balance—sweet just enough to cushion the citrus, cold enough to frost the glass, and aromatic from a twist of lime. Freeze cranberries for a playful garnish that keeps things chilled without dilution. It’s simple, elegant, and built for that midnight clink.
Ingredients
- 50 ml vodka, chilled
- 60 ml cranberry juice (cranberry juice cocktail for sweeter; 100% juice for tarter)
- 20 ml fresh lime juice
- 10 ml simple syrup (adjust to taste and juice sweetness)
- 60–90 ml dry sparkling wine, well-chilled (optional; or 60 ml chilled soda water)
- Ice cubes
- Lime wheel or lime twist, to garnish
- A few fresh or frozen cranberries, to garnish
- Granulated sugar, for optional rim

- 3
Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is frosty.

Fine-strain into the chilled glass (up or over fresh ice, your choice).
- 5
Optional: Top gently with dry sparkling wine for a New Year’s spritz, or soda water for a lighter fizz.
- 6
Express a strip of lime peel over the top to release oils, then garnish with a lime wheel and a few cranberries.
- 7
Toast to the year ahead!
Chef's Tip
Freeze cranberries as edible “ice” and use a rich (2:1) simple syrup for silkier texture without extra dilution.
Fun Fact
Vodka, cranberry, and lime nod to the Cape Codder; add orange liqueur and you’re close to the Cosmopolitan—both classics that became pop-culture icons in different eras.
