These tacos are an ode to experimental American fast food trends of the late 20th century, where bold entrepreneurs and cooks would merge different cuisines, creating hybrids that we now cherish. Back in the '70s, variations of the Big Mac made way into the hearts (and stomachs) of millions. Now, in this appetizing crossover, the taco shell becomes the stage for a Big Mac performance, promising a standing ovation from your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 soft flour tortillas
- 1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 4 slices cheddar cheese, quartered
- 1/4 cup pickles, finely chopped
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp French dressing
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1/2 tbsp minced white onion
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- 1
In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, minced onion, white vinegar, sugar, and paprika to make the special sauce. Set aside.
- 2
Season ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- 3
Warm tortillas in a pan over low heat or in the microwave covered with a damp paper towel.
- 4
Layer each tortilla with a quarter slice of cheddar cheese, the hot ground beef, and shredded lettuce.
- 5
Drizzle the special sauce over the fillings and top with chopped pickles.
- 6
Garnish the tacos with sesame seeds to mimic the classic Big Mac bun, fold gently, and serve immediately.
Chef's Tip
For an extra crunch, consider adding a layer of crushed tortilla chips within your tacos. It adds texture and nods to the sesame seed bun of the Big Mac!
Fun Fact
Did you know the Big Mac was first introduced by McDonald's in 1967 in Pittsburgh by Jim Delligatti, an early franchisee? It then went national in 1968 and became a fast-food icon.
